Magic Island

Having been described as ‘honest pop’, Magic Island’s soundscape is permeated by haunting and unforgettable flavours. With her Berlin-based solo project, the artist weaves together powerful compositions with tangles and twists of her signature weirdness. Starting with experimental compositions on her piano, Magic Island sculpts loops and hooks pulling freely from R&B, experimental pop, soul and mainstream sounds. 

Magic Island developed her affinity for vocal hooks and harmonies at 13 when she heard the rapper Camron’s album Purple Haze and fell in love with the sped-up samples used, realizing that these were actually effected vocals from the greatest soul singers of all time. Her inspiration comes from many walks of life and can be hard to categorize within one genre. This year we celebrate the release of her 2nd full length album, So Wrong.

Als ein Sound der als „honest Pop“ beschrieben wurde, ist die Klanglandschaft von Magic Island von eindringlichen und unvergesslichen Aromen durchdrungen. Mit ihrem in Berlin based Soloprojekt verwebt die Künstlerin kraftvolle Kompositionen mit Verstrickungen und Wendungen ihrer charakteristischen weirdness. Ausgehend von experimentellen Kompositionen auf ihrem Klavier, formt Magic Island Loops und Hooks, die sich frei aus R&B, experimentellem Pop, Soul und Mainstream-Sounds zusammensetzen. 

Magic Island entwickelte ihre Affinität für Vocal Hooks und Harmonien im Alter von 13 Jahren, als sie das Album Purple Haze des Rappers Camron hörte und sich in die verwendeten Sped-Up-Samples verliebte, da sie erkannte, dass es sich tatsächlich um bearbeitete Vocals der größten Soulsänger aller Zeiten handelte. Ihre Inspiration kommt aus vielen Lebensbereichen und ist schwer in ein Genre einzuordnen. Dieses Jahr feiern wir die Veröffentlichung ihres zweiten Full-Length-Albums So Wrong.
